My Writing Style

My Writing Style

Every writer has his or her own writing style. Some styles may be a bit unorthodox or a bit crazy. Some people can only write at their desk. Some of us cannot write until midnight when the kids are asleep. Then again, some of us may be single and have the ability to write all day.

Then some of us may be a bit formal and boring. As long as, we get the pen to the paper and we are not staring at a blinking cursor for 5 hours, then that is a measure of success.

My style

I am sharing my style of writing with you to help other writers to also write. We can also share tactics as, I like to give back and help other writers. On a side note I am working on a resource page for writers to help them get in touch with different experts and professionals in the industry to illustrators and cover designers to copy writers and much more.

When you are just starting out with self publishing, you may not have hundreds of dollars to hire a professional designer for your book cover. So, that is why I am curating this list of professionals, because  a few of these professionals will design a professional cover for you for under $60.  Never be fooled into thinking you have to spend 2,3 or 400 or 600 for a professional cover.

Back to my writing style, I kind of got off topic in that last chapter, but like I said, I like to give back anyway I can, so I will post this curated list soon.

Unorthodox

My style is a bit unorthodox in the sense, I can write and my brain can be free as it can be and I can write for hours. Yes, my writing can flow just under one condition. Its quiet. For me to write it has to be quiet and either I must be alone or everyone is asleep at midnight. Another thing I like to do is turn off all distractions, I stay off the internet,  social media, turn off the house phone ringer, and cell phone.

Writing in a sense is a  gift handed down to us at birth. We just do not realize we have this gift until later on in life, as you cannot write as a baby or toddler. Once you start to write when you are older you'll know if you have it or not  if you enjoy it and can write freely, but you have to turn off the distractions to let your mind be free and do its magic. There is no fun in sitting down to write then you start shopping on Amazon.com then fall asleep after shopping for 3 hours and never bought anything.

For me the best time to write is either at 11pm or 4am when everyone is sleeping. You need to find the time in your house when you will be alone for at least 4 hours. Another tip I will give you is to turn off the cable news. I can be a news junkie at times and the problem with cable news is they will spend 10 hours talking about one story. Before you know it you have spent 5 hours watching cable news since you been home from your day job. Now it is 10pm and you are starting to fall asleep and you did not write anything down.  So, if you really want to be a writer and are looking for a daily writing style. Follow these steps.

Turn off distractions

Turn off cable news at 6pm.

Only write when you are alone.

Be committed.

Be serious

Be determined.

Try to write daily.

Write as many words you can without editing.

That pretty much sums up everything you need to write. I really hope you learned some tips from my writing style. Remember always reach out to me if you need any advice or tips. You can leave a comment on here below, or just send me an email. Author.daltonsmith@icloud.com.

My ideal writng space

My ideal writing space is a quiet and quaint desk, it can also be next to the fireplace with a nice fire going. Or the backyard on a nice sunny day.

What inspires me to write?

Its you that inspires me to write. Knowing that you like to read my books and that those books have helped you with a particular situation  in your life  is what keeps me inspired to write more and more each day. When I am able to teach my readers something  that means a lot to me and is truly inspiring.  I'm actually  in the process of finishing a few manuscripts right now. These manuscripts have been on my shelf for quite some time now, but the pandemic has slowed things down with my publishing process. I finally got around to finally finish them so you can read them of course.

Writing tip for you

One tip I will leave you with is to write the best book you can write you need to write the perfect outline. Your outline is like your books road map, it keeps you in flow and puts everything in order, it also helps you to write freely. Only if you write a good outline, because a poor outline will make you write a poor book. Nobody wants to read a poor book!

Luckily nowadays you can download a mind map app for your android or apple device. I strongly suggest you get a mind map app it will be the best thing you can do.

Try one of these below and you will be thanking me when you see your manuscripts come alive after you start using these apps.

Simplemind

Mindly

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dripgrind.mindly&hl=en_US&gl=US

They both are free,  but of course if you want to share the mindmap you have to upgrade. So, while you cant print it or share it. The main thing you want to do is just save it to your device. So enjoy and happy writing. Share with me some of your writing styles in the comments below.
